As an Independent School...
In October 2007, PTI hosted two inspectors from the Ministry of Education, Office of Independent Schools. Following the intense two-day inspection of our curriculum and instruction, student records and all aspects of our General Studies program, we were once again informed that we had passed our inspection "with flying colours." We received approval as a Class 2 Independent School until July, 2009. The inspectors were impressed with PTI's high level of academic perfomance. They also commented on the warm atmosphere provided by all of PTI's teachers in General and Judaic Studies as well as the Administration and other PTI Staff. Each year or two, there will be a routine follow-up inspection of independent schools.
In 2006-2007, the total number of independent students was 63,362 an increase of 2.6%. the total number of public school students continues to decline as predicted, estimated at 572,150 FTE's. Approximately 11% of all the school-going children in the province now attend independent schools
BC Graduation Program
Hours can be counted, for those entering in Fall 2009:
- Grade 10, as of Sept 2009 through June 2012.
- Grade 11, as of Sept 2008 through June 2011.
- Grade 12, as of Sept 2007 through June 2010.
The Graduation Program requires students to document 30 hours of paid or volunteer work experience. We are therefore asking parents to ensure that these hours are documented. Summer hours of paid and/or volunteer work can also be included as can hours spent on duty in the Yeshiva (for example: meal preperation, serving, and clean-up). Parents of Grades 10, 11, and 12 students should return the documentation to Mr. Wohl after a minimum of 30 hours have been documented.
Provincial Examinations
All Grade 10, 11, and 12 students in British Columbia are required to write school-administered Provincial Examinations. Parents of these students are asked to avoid scheduling holidays or family events on or before these days. These provincial exams are in addition to any end-of-year school-based examinations that our General Studies teachers may schedule for Grades 8 through 12. The Grade 10 and 11 Provincial exams count for twenty percent of the year's mark. Grade 12 Provincials count for forty percent of the year's mark.
Visit the Ministry of Education site for more information, practice tests, and access to test marks.

PTI is registered with the College Board, the US-based organization that administers the SAT and ACT college entrance exam program for Sunday test administration (SAT and ACT tests are normally offered on Saturdays). The SAT and ACT exams assess high school students' general educational development and their ability to complete college-level work after Grade 12.
To quailify for writing the SAT (Level I and Level II) or ACT exam, parents must have individually registered their son to participate at www.collegeboard.com or at www.act.org. Parents will find the fee schedules at those web sites and will need to include the International test site registration fee in their payment. Please read the instructions for registration carefully. The registration deadlines for testing in Canada (an international site) are earlier than for test centers in the United States.
Mr. Wohl, as Test Supervisor, has a copy of the information materials and registration forms. Normally, in most jurisdictions worldwide, the SAT is written on a Saturday. The first time a student writes an SAT exam on a Sunday requires that a school official send a letter documenting the religious requirement for the Sunday writing sessions. This letter must be sent by mail. Mr. Wohl or one of our Roshei Yeshiva would be pleased to respond to any student's request to provide this letter. Any student interested in these exam programs should see Mr. Wohl.
